Welcome to Skye Watch

Skye at the West Virginia Shelter
Skye recovers from emergency abdominal surgery.

From W.O.L.F.’s Executive Director Shelley Coldiron

Welcome to the new W.O.L.F. blog Skye Watch. We have had overwhelming support and interest in our newest little wolf dog Skye who we rescued from a shelter in W. Virginia. We want to provide a space where her fans and supporters can find out the latest developments in Skye’s life.

But first, I want to thank the hundreds of people who provided support and donations for Skye during her first weeks at W.O.L.F. Her medical treatments were unanticipated and extremely costly. Because of our devoted supporters, we raised nearly $25,000 to help Skye have the life she has always deserved. Shortly after arriving in Colorado on her flight from W. Virginia, our Vets at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (CSUVTH) discovered that Skye had major medical problems. They were most likely caused by a blunt force trauma to her abdomen. Her organs were pushed into her diaphragm and impeded her breathing. Without emergency abdominal surgery, Skye would have died.

Skye spent several days in the Critical Care Unit at the hospital and finally came home to W.O.L.F. to recover from surgery. In just over a week, Skye started to have grand mal seizures, and she was rushed back to the veterinary hospital at CSU. She spent three days back in the CCU where she underwent multiple tests and procedures. Her doctors determined that liver disease, as a result of her earlier trauma, most likely caused her seizures. She was placed on multiple medications to help support her liver, control the seizures and treat any infections. She is now on a very specialized and limited diet of rice and eggs. Her medical costs have skyrocketed to over $12,000. She will continue to have significant medical bills as we work through her issues. She will need ongoing clinical care with imaging diagnostics, blood work, a possible neurologic evaluation, as well as multiple medications and a very strict diet. W.O.L.F. is committed to providing Skye’s medical care, no matter what the cost.

Skye is a fighter and one tough little wolf dog. Her vets have seen it over and over as she fights through the medical complications of her condition and continues to make an amazing recovery. She is determined to survive. We will support her determination and provide her with all the help she needs.

Her supporters and fans are part of this journey with Skye. You have helped us keep our promise to Skye that we will provide all the medical and specialized care she needs to have a good life. That is our commitment to every animal we rescue.

All of us at W.O.L.F. see how special Skye is and how strong her life force is. We believe she has touched the public, because you feel it too.

We intend to use Skye Watch to share the life of this little wolf dog with you. We want you to see the struggles but also the good times that Skye has. She is strong-willed and feisty. Skye is not ready to throw in the towel, and neither are we. We will share what we know of Skye’s past life, give you an inside look at her recovery and celebrate her new life as she begins her journey at W.O.L.F. We hope you will enjoy getting to know Skye in depth, through posts, videos and pictures. She is a fascinating wolf dog, and we are encouraged to see her blossom. Join us in following the life and times of Skye right here at Skye Watch .

I fell in love with Skye and cried all the while reading about her. Let her know I will be praying for her. I am so sad that I can’t go see her and the other gifts of these wonderful animals. I was “owned” by a wolf-malamute for 3 awesome years until he was taken by cancer. Thank you.

Hope you are doing well Skye…..some co-workers here at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise in Fort Collins pooled together and sent a new kennel via the W.O.L.F. wish list off Amazon: https://amzn.to/2EIN0f6?fbclid=IwAR1Yus6aBuuSWaS0YbEwJMQPN_z84jjaX6SGMJ4-R5hi4urpu0UnQpphlYs
