A Day in the Life of Skye
From W.O.L.F.’s Director of Animal Care Michelle Proulx
Skye has become a pretty spoiled girl at the sanctuary. She lives in the cabin and has access through a doggie door to a deck and outdoor run. On first arrival after her stay at the veterinary hospital, Skye insisted on staying indoors constantly. It was a challenge for staff to get her outside at all. She has since adjusted to spending some time outside, though her caregivers allow her to wander around as she pleases. A few weeks ago, we observed her sleeping outside in the grass for the first time, enjoying the sunshine.
While Skye will now go outside without the encouragement of staff, you will never find her outside during her food preparation times. When she first arrived, she was eating eggs and rice, but we found that she wasn’t gaining weight on that diet. During her recheck a few weeks ago, our veterinarians recommended switching from rice to mashed potatoes, as she was not digesting the rice. Skye had no qualms about this change and took it in stride. She has a fantastic appetite and is willing to eat anything within reach.
For all that she has endured, Skye is surprisingly social. Some of our residents who have suffered similar neglect and abuse have become shy and fearful of humans, but Skye has remained trusting. She seems to recognize that no one here will ever hurt her. Skye has found her forever home here at W.O.L.F. and is soaking up the good life.
